Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings is celebrating its anniversary: the Berliner Philharmoniker label has been releasing recordings of selected concerts since 2014 – independently and always to the highest artistic standards. The presentation of the recordings goes far beyond the usual, with the Berliner Philharmoniker editions offering a total aesthetic experience. While maintaining its promise of quality, the label will also break new ground in the future with purely digital releases to complement physical products.
10 Years of Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings
Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker: joint discography
Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings documents the successful collaboration between chief conductor Kirill Petrenko and the orchestra. The first release comprised key works from the period of their getting to know each other and, with works ranging from Ludwig van Beethoven to Franz Schmidt, represented very different facets of the repertoire. This was followed by Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphonies Nos. 8 to 10 and an edition of works by Sergei Rachmaninoff – Petrenko’s self-declared “musical home”.
New directions, new formats
The first part of a series of recordings focusing on soloists of the Berliner Philharmoniker was released in 2024 and is available exclusively in digital format. The series was launched with a release featuring works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Leone Sinigaglia with Noah Bendix-Balgley, 1st concertmaster with the orchestra. In the second edition of the series, principal viola Amihai Grosz presents works by Bohuslav Martinů and William Walton. Harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet takes centre stage in the third part of the series, performing concertos by Germaine Tailleferre and George Frideric Handel.
Further releases by the orchestra with Kirill Petrenko are also planned, in particular with music by Josef Suk and Arnold Schoenberg. Two editions will be released as part of the Berliner Philharmoniker Recordings historical series, one of which is dedicated to Seiji Ozawa, and the other to Herbert von Karajan.
