Jim Rakete is one of the world’s outstanding portrait photographers. In February 2010, he devoted himself to a major series of photographs of the members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. The striking images convey the multifaceted nature of the musicians – both their personal and artistic sides, and especially the relationship with their instruments. Short biographies complete the picture. The photographer’s approach to his subjects is described by Frederik Hanssen in his foreword to the illustrated volume: “No spotlights, no staging. Daylight. A chair. The characteristic grey background that’s become his trademark – Jim Rakete needs nothing more than this to approach the Berliner Philharmoniker. His aim is to show them not as stars of classical music but as human beings.” The volume is printed on high quality paper and bound in a fine linen cover.
